Tuesday, 2nd June
This week, get to know the expectations that you need to achieve by the end of the year. Get to know what you can do already and what you can work on during the next few weeks in reading, writing and maths. This will help you with your goal setting.Read The Boy at the Back of the Room and the tasks that can be done this week. Whose Chapter Chat post was a standout on Chapter Chat? Well done, Stella.

How will your post stand out? It will be seen as a piece of work that was worked on (it stretched your ability), not quickly drawn up in 5 minutes without any evidence of hard work. It is easy to see the amount of effort that has gone into a post when we look for details, originality and creativity, choice of colour and medium. Are you going to do a quick pencil sketch (that anyone can do) or will it be a fully detailed and coloured post that shows effort of doing the very best that you can do? Put the effort in to stretch your ability - grow your brain!
Learning pages that have doodling on them will be repeated if they have not been rubbed out by Friday. Show quality learning pages to your parents at parent-teacher interviews at the end of this month.
Bring your Library books to school this week, so that we can return them.
Bring a cup in a plastic bag if you want school milk this week.
Well done, those of you who finished your tasks last week - Ella and Riley. You can be flexible with your timetable, just sticking to things we do as a class. Remember to put in your guitar time and, when you are practising Cc, remember to begin each letter at the same height.
You were almost finished, Lily, Davey, Amelia and Jorja. Work on getting finished today, so that you can be flexible with your timetables tomorrow.
Skills that you are learning when you make your own timetable.
You are learning to self-regulate, self-motivate and be an active learner, not a passive learner. (A passive learner waits for the teacher to give them a worksheet or tell them what to do. An active learner is always thinking about what he or she wants to learn about or wants to learn to do. eg I wonder .......
In making your own timetable, you are learning to:
- manage your own learning
- use your flexibility wisely
- prioritise - what needs to be done
- prioritise - what needs to be done first
- prioritise - what can be started and finished at a later time
- use prior knowledge to plan - what time frames fit the tasks
- problem-solve - will this learning be best done with someone or on your own
- problem-solve - when you have finished that learning, what will you do to follow it up
- problem-solve - do you need to email your teacher for a lesson
- problem-solve - what do you need to do to solve the problem - there are 25 problem-solvers in the class
- problem-solve - what to do if someone is distracting you from your learning
- set goals for yourself and steps to achieving them
- reflect on your learning - how are you getting on with achieving your goals - what is helping you to achieve? what is stopping you from achieving? did you reach your potential (as good as you can do) why or why not? Could you show evidence of your learning better?
